From the Telegraph:
Dauntless will set sail for the Falkland Islands in the coming weeks armed with a battery of missiles that could “take out all of South America’s fighter aircraft let alone Argentina’s,” according to one Navy source.
This move might have proven sufficient to deter Argentina before it became known that the HMS Westminster had gone into the Libyan conflict armed with only 4 anti-aircraft missles out of it’s 38 missile capacity. Knowing that, some will surely ask if the Dauntless sufficiently armed to carry out its mission or is this simply a bluff on the part of the U.K..
It might be that sending the Westminster to Libya so armed was deemed an acceptable risk since air dominance was likely to be achived by colition assets. However, the U.K. doesn’t have those other assets to depend on in the Falklands, so I think it likely the Dauntless has a full supply of missiles.
